This isn't a video. How weird!

Here's the problem: people don't read anymore. It's a crying shame, but there's not much to be done about it, unfortunately. Video not only killed the radio star, it made short work of the authors, too. I know this all too well. I'm not just a drag queen, I'm also a student. A writing student. A Creative Writing student.

Dear God. What was I thinking? I should have become a doctor.

One way or another, I began my YouTube channel as I was approaching the end of my BCA, realising I hadn't done anything creative in a while and that I needed to get myself into gear. And so here I am, with a YouTube channel that has attracted a modest amount of followers (for which I am very, very grateful) and keeps my inbox buzzing on a daily basis (for which I am also very, very grateful).

But what about my writing? Since I started my YouTube channel I've barely written a thing, excepting facebook statuses, but everybody writes those. That doesn't make me special. Which is a shame, because some of those statuses have a lot of work put into them. Literally minutes are spent on making them not only topical, but hilarious. You know the kind of hilarious I mean. The side-splitting kind.

So, what's the remedy? What Would A Drag Queen Do? The answer is obvious: she'd start a complimentary blog site to fill in the gaps. Also to assure people that she's alive when she neglects to post on YouTube. Which she's been doing lately. Bad Drag Queen. Go and stand in the corner.

While I'm aware that, for the majority of my subscribers, (some of whom indicated so on my facebook) a blog wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting as a regular stream of videos, it's something I've wanted to try my hand at for a while. So here I am.

There are a lot of things I'd like to share here, such as photos, rants (they're the most fun) and daily musings, which YouTube doesn't really allow for, given that frocking up on a daily basis to film isn't really a convenient proposal. So here we go. Let's see if this works. If it doesn't, it can easily be abandoned. If it does, I'd say it deserves a sandwich. Jarlsberg cheese, for preference.

Keep calm and carry on!

  1. Besides, a successful blog is the only way to get a book deal these days anyway.

  2. Exactly. When one's mission is to conquer all media, there isn't a stop not to be pulled out!

  3. I believe reading rather than watching is such a fun! You actually make efforts of imagining what the author( in this case scenraio, a Drag Queen) would intepret it, how would he or she give it a shape my means of mymic:))) In a much lesser words, it makes you use your brain properly. So good for you!
